Yamba

In the first week of the school holidays, Joel went to Sydney while my parents, Leo and I headed to Yamba for some lazy days by the beach. We weren't sure if we were crazy going away together, let alone with an 18 month old in tow, but we survived and had an absolutely fabulous time.

I grew up going to South West Rocks for family holidays and always hoped Joel and I would find some equivalent for our family. I really think Yamba could be it. It has everything necessary for the perfect time away: beautiful beaches, walks and neighbouring towns to explore; coffee shops, bakeries and restaurants that are well worth a second (or third) visit and some lovely little boutiques for the shoppers amongst us.  There was even a second-hand bookshop so I know where I'll find Joel.

Despite living less than hour away from the beach, and having all of the above at my disposal, I felt like I was away in Yamba and isn't that the point of getting away for a while?

I've been having withdrawals ever since.

More photos, after the jump.

Leo discovered the simple pleasure of chasing seagulls.
We saw dolphins here which was a real treat!
We took a walk and I could not get over the number of lizards out sunning themselves.
Leo's perseverance was tested during our walks. He fell asleep on the way back.
Where we spent our mornings.
Splashing in the waves with his Mimi.
A happy discovery in Sawtell.
Mum said something funny, albeit a little inappropriate.
Leo with his Pappy.
Leo was pretty tired by this point, hence no smiles, but Mimi and Pappy's make up for it.
Walking along the rocks and watching the waves on our last morning.

Take me back!
