Letter to Phoebe- Five Months

Dear Phoebe,

Your fifth month began and has ended with even more milestones. While I would love you to slow down I know that’s not possible, especially as you have revealed yourself to be quite the determined young lady.

Earlier this month you learnt to take hold of the toys dangling from the bar above your rocker and you love to shake them then let go and watch as they gently rock back and forth. You've also discovered how to grab your feet while lying on your back and sometimes, those delicious little toes find their way into your mouth. There's been a lot of lip smacking and mock-chewing of late. It’s rather cute. We've all noticed you watching us as we eat our meals. Your gaze is piercing and when you realise we’re looking at you (as you’re usually watching our mouths) your face lights up and the biggest smile stretches across your face. While you’ve never been a voracious eater I think you may prove to be one yet as we start solids in the coming month.

You still love tummy time and are slowly mastering the art of crawling. You’re able to use your arms to move yourself forward and you can hold quite the impressive plank and downward dog. In this last week you’ve started moving your legs, working on your coordination to get everything moving in unison. It’s exciting to watch as you are so pleased with yourself but because you are so determined it’s meant that you’ve often fought sleep; preferring to keep practising despite the frustration and exhaustion that ensues. I usually let you go and cheer you on with Leo but am quick to embrace you when you have finally had enough. So often the words, “you don’t have to learn to crawl today,” have been on my lips to soothe your frustration and disappointment at not having mastered it yet. Your determination despite your tiredness is praiseworthy and it makes me wonder how you will put it to use in the years to come.

You are always full of smiles for Leo and are patient with his enthusiastic affections. You love to watch him as he plays nearby and he makes you laugh which I think makes him feel pretty special. I always enjoy watching you two together.

In this last month we've seen a lot of family and close friends which has suited you to a t. You've thoroughly enjoyed the extra cuddles from everyone and it has been lovely to hear those delightful coos and giggles. I don't think there has been a single day since your birth where I haven't given thanks that you are my daughter. You are joy personified and all I want to do is sit in your presence.

Happy five months, Phoebe. You are so loved!

Love Mum xx
